The technique about electroforming - This is a fabulous intricate technique that works great with organic materials such as leaves, flowers, shells, branches and others. To electroform a leaf, a lovely natural leaf is pressed flat and left to dry. The pulp which is the part that becomes brittle is removed by bathing the leaf in a special acid bath, leaving the leaf structure intact. The leaf is treated with a copper based paint, which gives the foundation of electro formation, then it is dipped in a electrolytic solution ( based on gold, copper, brass, silver, rose gold) to allow the metal deposits onto the copper based surface, creating a lovely natural look that is strong. The final metallic leaf finish is dependent on the electrolytic solution used. After the leaf is electroform extra time spent is spent to make sure the deposits are smooth and uniform, resulting in gorgeous wearable unique pieced of art.
Note: Leaves contain a base of cooper therefore will naturally patina over time. Clean the silver in a silver dipping solution. Iridescent rose gold ( a mix of copper/gold) and cooper will become less intense and more golden brown with age.
Closure:
clipballs w/screwbacks (antique copper) French hooks (antiqued copper)
